Gas: BP postpones the start of the Grand Tortue Ahmeyim project

Expected in 2022, the start of phase 1 of the Grand Tortue Ahmeyim gas mega-project, straddling the border between Senegal and Mauritania, will in all likelihood be delayed. British Petroleum (BP), the British operator piloting the project, has indicated that due to the current difficulties related to the Covid-19 pandemic, it will only be able to receive its floating LNG production vessel, the FLNG Gimi, in 2023 and not 2022 as initially expected. A decision that clearly surprised the contractor Gimi MS, a subsidiary of the shipowner Golar, in charge of delivering the LNG carrier. The two companies are reportedly currently in talks to find a satisfactory solution to this unforeseen situation.
