Tanzania: gas operator Aminex has its exploration license renewed

In a press release published on its website on 27 April, the Irish gas company Aminex announced that the Tanzanian Ministry of Energy has just extended the validity of its exploration rights on the Mtwara licence in the Ruvuma basin (south-east of the country) for one year. The Tanzanian authorities have nevertheless made this extension conditional on the effective investment of the company’s share of the costs related to the development of the Ntorya gas field, a joint venture between the European junior and the Omani company ARA Petroleum. Tanzania, which has made several offshore and onshore gas discoveries since the early 2010’s, is estimated to contain some 30 trillion cubic feet of gas. This potential has attracted a number of specialist operators, including Aminex.
